Contentment at home

It's days like today that make me very happy that I'm a full-time homemaker.
It's the feeling of contentment.
It all starts with the senses.
The rain has stopped.  The sun is playing hide and seek behind the clouds.
My windows and doors are opened to the sweet smelling breeze.

Want to know what I smell?
The strongest scent right now is gardenia.
I picked a couple of the perfumed buds from my bush, brought them inside and put them in a bud vase on the kitchen counter.
The breeze picks up the scent as it drifts through the kitchen window and carries it through the whole house.

The gardenia bush is blooming right outside my breakfast room window.
If you look closely through the window in the background you can see more blooms on the bush.
I happen to think it's the sweetest smell in the world.

Want to know what I'm hearing?
Birdsong for one thing.
The breeze playing a song on my wind chimes for another.
I love being able to have my windows and doors open on days like this.
I know the summer heat will soon be upon us and I'll have to close the windows and turn on the air conditioner but I'm enjoying the cooler weather to the fullest while it's here.

I also hear soothing Celtic music softly playing.
I play it very quietly as background music to the bird song and wind chimes.

I'm SO happy and contented today that I decided to share my joy with my guys.
I've got a cake baking in the oven.  What better way to put a smile on my husband's and two sons' faces?
I know what their first question will be when they come home from work and see the cake, "Who's that for?"
It's sad that they think I only bake treats to take elsewhere.
I need to remedy that, don't I?

  5. What a wonderful world! I am smelling gardenia across the continent, here in South Africa:) Not yours, of course, but a bloom that a friend brought me last week. It sits in a small vase in my kitchen, reminding me of her and now of you also! Thank you for sharing you home making joy with us!

The Green Top Barbeque is between Sumiton and Birmingham on the Highway 78. Maybe you can go sometime.

  10. When I was in S.C. with my friend Jeanne, we were blessed to smell those sweet gardenias. We don't have them here where I live. They would never survive the winters ; (
So happy you are happy my friend.
I'm sure the men loved every morsel of your sweet cake.
