Happiness in the Everyday

I find happiness, yes, even peace and contentment, in the every day things in life.
Cleaning my home brings me a sense of rightness.  Cooking comforts me.
That's why I'm feeling so good today because I've started the day off with some of those little comforts.

On Monday, after a full weekend, I like to start by throwing in a load of laundry and then vacuuming the floors.

The bright sun shining through the lace curtains in my little sitting area makes me smile.

While hanging my laundry on the line, I take the time to look around my backyard and say a "thank You" for the beauty I see all around me.

I go back inside and mix up my granola cereal.
It's worth the extra work just for the way it makes our home smell while cooking!

Then I mix up a batch of taco seasoning.
It's a good feeling to have a jar of it in the cabinet for days when I need to make a really quick meal.

Next, I move on to the computer to print up the camping list for hubby and me because we're planning on going camping pretty soon and I can't wait!

Well, that's it for my contented little morning since it's almost time for lunch now and then time to start supper.

I think a quote from one of my favorite all-time writers, Norman Vincent Peale, in his book The Power of Positive Thinking sums up my life's outlook pretty well:

To become a happy person
have a clean soul,
eyes that see romance in the commonplace,
a child's heart,
and spiritual simplicity.

I hope you have a great day and a wonderful week, my friend!

    1. Thanks Pom Pom! We don't get to leave for camping for several more days, but I know it'll be fun. The granola smells as good as it looks. :)

  2. Just curious what is the "Camping List"?

    1. That's a very good question, Softie, thanks for asking it!

Our Camping List is a detailed list (or several lists really) of things we always take camping. We used to write up a new one each time we went ~ which was a pain when we had 3 children going too! But, we put it on the computer several years ago and just print it up each time before we go. We have a Master Food List, a Medicine Box List, a Truck List (with things to put on the back of our truck like folding chairs, grill, bicycle, etc.), a Miscellaneous List (with things like flashlights, beach towels, cameras, etc.), and lastly, a His/Her's List which includes our individual items we take (mine's much longer than his :).

I actually use my Her's List any time I take a trip somewhere. It saves me tons of time and I haven't forgotten a toothbrush or deodorant since I've been using it! :)

I hope I didn't confuse you more with this. Thanks for stopping by, Softie, hope you come again!

  3. Sherry, your home is so lovely. I sense the peace in your pictures. I wish I liked to clean as much as you. I'd much rather be crocheting:) I know how much you love camping, enjoy your trip! Twyla

    1. Thank you, Twyla. I have to admit that I don't always like to clean. Hey, and if something more fun comes along, my cleaning gets pushed to the bottom of my list! :) It's so good to hear from you, hope you had a great birthday. I thought of you on the 24th.

  4. love the way you find contentment in doing the chores that are so routine and necessary but can be boring unless one has the right attitude. The blessing of the ordinary someone has called it.
