March...in like a lamb...

The daffodils are showing off!

March certainly has started out beautifully in the Heart of Dixie! It was cold this morning but has warmed up nicely. It is 52 degrees and sunny right now! These little yellow bits of sunshine are peeking up all over our front yard. They seem to get prettier every spring, and never have they been more welcome than this year. They're actually blooming a little later this year, usually popping up by late January and blooming by early February. It was just so cold then that they probably wanted to stay under their winter blanket a little longer.

This little fellow was in such a hurry to grow up that he grew right through a leaf!

I had to bring in a handful for my breakfast table, of course. I gathered this little bunch from the woods around our house. It's always so hard for me to cut any of the flowers that grow in the yard. They give me such pleasure.

Here is another yellow surprise that I found growing in my herb garden. I planted the pansies in the fall expecting them to bloom all winter like they usually do, but not so this year. We haven't had the typical mild Alabama winter this year.

And since I am showing flowers this beautiful day, maybe someone could help me name this wildflower. These little flowers grow profusely here in early spring, but I've never known what to call them. Does anyone know what they are?

Well, I'm off to enjoy the rest of this beautiful day. The rain is supposed to move in tonight with snow possible tomorrow and tomorrow night. I've always heard the saying about Alabama weather, "If you don't like the weather today, just stick around a few hours, it'll change." Hope you are having a sunny day where ever you are.

  1. Hello, Sherry, those beautiful daffodils are bringing a smile to my face! It is a cold, cloudy and rainy day in Central Texas so I needed a little "sunshine" to warm up my day! I hope you have a wonderful week full of fun and laughter, my friend! Vicki

  7. Hey, This is Sharon. I forgot my username for now. Flowers are hard to ID unless you are looking at them. You can look up Bird's Eye and Henbit. See if that helps you. Let me know if that helps. I can look into others as well.

  9. Well that last one looks to have a square stem which I think puts it in the mint family. I'm no plant expert but I swear I've seen these here in Alaska. Actually they look just like this weed that gets very sharp pointy things under the flower part that stick terrible if you touch it. But many things look alike and are not the same. Nan

  10. We have those little pink wildflowers in our yard too, starting to bloom now. They look like little petite orchids...I really like them. The other day when I was taking photos for my website I was bent down over the grass and saw the tiniest little blue flowers blooming too. Amazing what you can see if only you look. xoxo
