Yesterday was the first day of summer and I've made a decision; I'm going to enjoy it!
I've been listening to too many "They say's" lately. You know, They say I should wear sunblock every second I'm outside, cloudy or rainy. Oh but now, They say sunblock may actually be bad for me and I need some unprotected time in the sun or my vitamin D levels will be too low.
They said a low fat diet was absolutely necessary for me to have ultimate health. But wait a minute, now They say I actually need fats for my body to perform the way it should!
Oh last month, They said a high carb diet would give me energy and keep me satisfied while keeping my weight stable. This month They say, no, it's got to be low ~ or no ~ carbs all the way or I'll get all kinds of inflammation in my body!
I don't really know who They is, but I'm tired of listening to They and being jerked around. I truly want to be healthy, so who should I believe? I think I'll go to my body's owner's manual and see what it tells me. Here's the words I'm looking for, straight from the manufacturer:
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your paths straight.
Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
Proverbs 3: 5-8
Well it's quite simple after all, isn't it? I'll quit listening to what They say and just listen to what
He says!
Thank You, Lord, for giving such a simple answer to my many questions.
P.S. And thank you Keren for the wonderful picture of the little girl in her itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini! How did you know what my inner giggly girl looked like in a bikini? :)
I agree wholeheartedly. I stopped listening to the "they" a long time ago. They don't know what is right for everyone and each has a different opinion. How can white rice be bad for you when it is a staple in the Japanese and Indian diet? It's all the fast food and packaged food that is making people sick these days. Food that God created and made at home is always best. Women on this side of the world have major Vitamin D deficiencies because they cover from head to toe. No one thinks about the damage it will cause as they get older but it is a real problem. I say you do what is right for you and forget about the they! :) Have a wonderful Wednesday. Tammy
ReplyDeleteGreat post Sherry! It IS hard to know what's good for you and what isn't. It's enough to make your head spin, isn't it?!.. Hope you're enjoying your first days of Summer! ~tina
ReplyDelete"They" are constantly changing what's good for us. There is no magical diet or way to good health. Eating healthy in moderation and exercise in moderation are pretty much all we need to do. It's not as exciting as trying new diets, etc. But it's the old tried and true way.
ReplyDeleteOn another rant . . . There are so many commercials for anti-aging products, etc. that it makes me sad to think how self centered we've become. With all our modern conveniences we now have time to obsess over that new wrinkle, etc. we see.
We need to stop worrying what "they " say or what "they" think is beautiful. We should live each day to the fullest and appreciate the blessings God has given us.
We should be enjoying every day to the fullest and not so hung up on ourselves.
Sherry this post has blessed me SO!!
ReplyDeleteevery word is exactly how i feel!

I appreciate your post today. We need to eat the food God created and stop eating the stuff mankind has concocted that can outlast a nuclear explosion. Three cheers for "homegrown tomatoes"

What a great post! I used to worry what "they" thought about everything..getting older I have begun to rely more on my own thoughts
ReplyDeleteand wishes. People waste a lot of time obsessing about wrinkles, and getting old..real beauty comes from within!
Thanks for sharing !

Such a great proverb, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteI listen to my "gut" rather than "they". The Lord knows what each of us needs! ♥
