Boo Scaredy Cat, get Gone!!!

I'm through with waiting around until the "perfect" time to practice my drawing. 

I'm jumping in.  T-o-d-a-y.  With my whole, silly, girly heart.  I'll not criticize what I draw.  I'll look at it through my inner child's eyes and think, "Wow!"

 

 It's another rainy day here in Alabama.  I'm not complaining and my garden's not complaining.  I'm looking on the bright side.  I don't get to hang the laundry out on the line but I'm very thankful that I have a clothes dryer to do the job for me.

A dental appointment on Tuesday changes my normal grocery shopping day to Monday.  Today.  So I've got to get my menu and grocery list made out and get going.  I made another grocery bag last week, a twin to the other one, so I'll be able to bring my groceries home in style today.

I've got a couple of fun sewing projects lined up for this week.  Hannah, my precious grandbaby, is turning one year old on September 8th and I want to make her a special gift.  So, Mama Sherry
has got to get busy!

Here's what I did with my Round Tuit this week.

I finally got around to corralling my art supplies into an easy to carry caddy.

Usually by the time I round up all my drawing supplies, I'm out of the artsy mood.

But I found the bright blue plastic caddy in the cleaning supply section at Walmart.

It's large enough to hold all my markers, colored pencils, paints, brushes, etc.

For less than $5, I have my art supplies together and ready to grab up and go!

 

I hope having my art supplies sitting out in plain view will keep me motivated to create a little more often.

Dealing with Disappointment

My inner giggly girl (Little Sherry) wasn't so giggly this morning. She is disappointed because something she had been looking forward to very much was called off. She just wanted to stay in bed this dark foggy morning.

But I talked her into getting up and making the best of things. So we got dressed and shared breakfast with Neil before sending him off to work. Then, longing for a smiling face, I went into the bathroom and put on a little makeup. I was giving myself such a big smile that those old doldrums just started dropping away.

Now, with laundry in the washer, supper in the Crock Pot, and my floors all swept and mopped, I pulled out a fun library book that I've already had for three weeks but haven't used, and showed it to Little Sherry.  I told her not to be sad, that we could have fun today with our book and colored pencils.  And guess what?  She cheered right up!

The book's pages are full of happy, bright colors!

And just look at the many fun projects we can choose from!

Everything looks rosier already.

Brilliant sun rays have dried up the fog and are beaming through the trees in my backyard.

I'm so glad I climbed out of bed this morning and decided to look at the bright side of life.

My Art File

In 2005 I used some of my rainy-day-money stash and bought myself a drawing book, the Lee Hammond's Big Book of Drawing to be precise. It is a wonderful instructor for a beginning artist. Wanting to keep my artwork in some type of file, I decided to keep that file here, on my blog. It is a file just for me, but you are welcome to visit it any time you like.

I finally did something I've always wanted to do!

Since I'm still hiding inside due to the heat outside, I've been making good use of my time. After many, many summers of saying this is the year I'm going to get my home decluttered before school starts back, I finally did it! But guess what, there is no school for me this year. I am retired from teaching ~ homeschool ~ after 16 years. But, I can still enjoy my clutter-free home.

I can walk into my little laundry room, and instead of seeing clutter and obstacles to step around, I can enjoy the little touches that we have added over time. I can look up and see the light fixture that I repainted and my sweet husband hung for me. It adds a rosy glow to my laundry days.



While going through old folders I found some more of my drawings from years gone by. Thought I'd let this little fellow parade through for Pink Saturday.

THE UNVEILING!!!

I finished it!!! TA DA!!!

My paint-by-number project has given me M-A-N-Y hours of pleasure, but I must say that I am glad to be finished with it and am ready to move on to the next project...which should be finishing up my crocheted afghan. It's so hard for this slightly ADD girl to stay focused on one time-intensive project long enough to finish before moving on to another. I have so many new ideas running through my head for the next project...and the next...and the next...

Boring You with My Drawings

I'm having such a good time looking through my old drawings and artwork. Please forgive me for boring you with more pictures of my attempts, but I enjoy sharing them so, and they are stirring up my interests again.

Do you recognize this little fellow? I tried to make him look like the lovable little character from the children's book, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie.



Well, I've got to get out to the garden before the temps soar here today. Those juicy, red, ripe tomatoes are hanging in bunches there just waiting to be brought into my kitchen and put into jars. I sure miss my canning partner. My sweet little Heather girl stood by my side for many summers patiently peeling tomato after tomato for me to can. Now she's moved waaaaay up north to Indiana and we don't get to share our special mother-daughter canning time together this year. But I'll put up some extra jars of tomatoes for ya'll Heather!

For My Kind Friends that Asked...

...to see more of my old drawings, here are some watercolor pieces I did while going through my Beatrix Potter stage. I often borrowed children's books from the library and practiced copying different styles ~ purely for my own enjoyment and artistic growth. I seem to learn best this way.

What I Want to Be When I Grow Up

My new Paint-by-Number hobby has stirred up sleeping interests for me. I wonder, does everyone go through different phases with their hobbies and interests or do most people just choose something and stick with it forever? Maybe my ever-changing interests have something to do with the way my sweet husband spells my name: A-D-D/O-C-D. I tell him he doesn't know how to spell Sherry, but then again, maybe he does.

I have always loved drawing, painting, music, etc., but my perfectionism ties my hands. I usually think that if I don't have time to do something perfectly, then I won't even start. But, I'm trying to shake that mentality. And, with my newly awakened artsy interest, I have gone through some of my past drawings and thought I would share some with you. I'll start with my favorite one.

I drew this about four years ago, and haven't done much drawing since then. But who knows what new~ or old~ interests I might stir up since I have retired from homeschooling and have a little extra time on my hands? There's no telling what I might be since I now have time to grow up!
